Wi-Fi Netwoks in JINR

Currently, JINR uses four types of Wi-Fi networks - private service, EDUROAM, public with pr-registration, public open. The last two in the list of Wi-Fi networks are named the same - JINR.

Private Service access is used by separate working groups. To connect to such a network, you need a password, which is issued by the department/laboratory administrator.

To access the EDUROAM Wi-Fi network, an EDUROAM account is required, which JINR staff can obtain from the LIT Network Service. The seconded persons receive an EDUROAM record at their institutes.

You can connect to public Wi-Fi networks with pr-registration without a password, but Internet access will be available only after registering the user's device mac-address in the system https://pr.jinr.ru .

In some areas of the JINR campus, there are open public networks, for access to which a password is not required.

The speed and reliability of a Wi-Fi network depends on the number of connected users, the load they create, and the equipment used by clients. Therefore, the speed is not guaranteed. In high traffic areas, the maximum connection speed may be further limited.

Recommendations:

At stationary employees workplaces, the connection to the JINR local network should be made via a cable.

JINR Wi-Fi networks are designed for working with mail, browsing Internet pages, and remote access in console mode.

It is not recommended to use them for connecting servers, high-performance workstations, for video conferencing, for transferring large files, for working with remote desktops in graphical mode.

When connecting to a Wi-Fi network with PR registration, a user must disable private mode in the settings of his device (randomization of the device MAC address).

Wi-Fi users are prohibited from:

- independently (without agreement with the administrators of laboratories and departments) install Wi-Fi equipment - access points, signal amplifiers.

- using torrent, tor programs.

Зand violations of the user's access to the network may be blocked without notice.

Please, report Wi-Fi problems by email to: noc@jinr.ru . A detailed description of the problem is appreciated.
