Services: IP Telephony

    Use of IP-telephony (VoIP)

The JINR Network Service receives questions from users about the support of various IP-telephony protocols in the JINR network and the external channel.
    1. At the moment, the JINR Network Service does not officially support or guarantee the operation of any of the telephone protocols. This is due to the capacity and load on external channels, equipment used and the security policy.

The LIT Directorate considers various options for upgrading channels and equipment.

Users can send their requests and proposals concerning IP telephony, to system administrators of their laboratories and departments, for further analysis and transfer to the LIT Network Service.

    2. When using any telephone equipment and software, the quality and reliability of the conversation depend on the status and quality of the remote subscriber's network and load of the JINR external channel. These networks are designed for data transmission, but do not yet provide a decent level of voice information transmission.

    3. Current situation with the most common protocols:

      - Software and hardware that use the Skype protocol. Working.
      - Software and hardware that use the Sipnet protocol. Does not work, due to restrictions on security policy.
      - Software and hardware that use the H.323 protocol. Works, no guarantee.
      - The remaining protocols. Those that use UDP protocol with non-fixed numbers will not work.
